Format YYYY-MM-DD.

24-hour local time, for example 14:35.

Type at least 2 letters of a city, district or municipality.

Chart settings

Lahiri is the standard in Nepal and India. KP users pick Krishnamurti.

Changes only how lunar months are named. Tithi and nakshatra stay the same.

Printed panchangs take sunrise as the moment the top of the Sun appears. The centre rises about 4 minutes later, which matters only when a tithi or nakshatra ends in those minutes.

What is a kundali?

A kundali, or janma kundali, is a Vedic birth chart: the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets and the rising sign (lagna) at the moment and place of birth, set out in twelve houses. This tool calculates it from a Bikram Sambat (BS) or Gregorian (AD) birth date, the birth time and the birth place, and shows a North or South Indian chart with the moon sign, nakshatra, pada, naming syllable and Vimshottari dasha.

How the engine is tested

Common questions

How is the kundali calculated?

Planet positions are sidereal: the engine uses the Lahiri (IAE-1985) ayanamsha, whole-sign houses and the mean lunar node. It is tested against Swiss Ephemeris on 5,433 births.

Why does the birth time matter?

The lagna passes through all twelve signs in about 24 hours, so it changes sign roughly every two hours, and the Moon’s nakshatra pada can change within a few hours. Near a boundary, a birth time that is 10 to 15 minutes off can change the lagna or the pada.

Can I enter a Nepali (BS) birth date?

Yes. Choose BS and enter the date from the birth certificate or patro. BS dates from 1970 to 2100 and AD dates from 1900 to 2100 work. Nepal’s clock is handled too: births before 1986 use +05:30 and later births +05:45.

Is my birth data saved?

No. What you enter goes to the API only to compute the result. It is never stored or logged.
