What is guna milan?
Guna milan, also called ashtakoota matching or kundali milan, compares the Moon sign and Moon nakshatra of two people across eight kootas and gives a score out of 36. Many families in Nepal and India check it before a marriage. This tool calculates both charts from BS or AD birth details and shows each koota score with Nadi, Bhakuta and Gana dosha flags.
Add guna milan to your app with the Kundali APICommon questions
What are the eight kootas?
Varna (1 point), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakuta (7) and Nadi (8), for 36 in total.
What is a good guna milan score?
By common convention, 18 or more out of 36 is treated as acceptable and 25 or more as a good match. Families and astrologers also weigh the doshas and the rest of each chart, so the score is a starting point, not a verdict.
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi dosha is flagged when both people have the same nadi (Adi, Madhya or Antya), which scores 0 of the 8 Nadi points. Some traditions treat it as cancelled under certain conditions, so the tool shows the flag for you to discuss with an astrologer.
Do I need exact birth times?
Matching depends mainly on the Moon’s sign and nakshatra. The Moon changes sign about every two and a quarter days and nakshatra about once a day, so an approximate time usually gives the same score. Near a nakshatra boundary the exact time matters.
